Classroom Routines and Procedures:
Classroom Expectations:
Be Prompt!
Be Responsible!
Be Attentive!
Be Considerate!
Be Prompt:
Entering the Classroom: Students will enter the classroom prepared to begin the warm-up problems/activity. The students should come to class with their textbook, 3 ring binder, and pencil. Students should be in their seat when the bell rings and ready to begin class without being prompted to do so. The warm-up activity will be posted on the front board.
Ending Class: Students are expected to stay in their seats until they are dismissed by the teacher, not the bell.
Students will be dismissed by my direction. Students may be expected to complete an exit question, ticket, or activity before they are dismissed. When students leave class, they are expected to have the assignment and goal written in their planner or assignment notebook.
Be Responsible:
- Chrome books must remain under your desk unless you are instructed to take them out.
- Chrome books must be flat on your desk when in use.
- Chrome books are only to be used for Pre-Algebra related activities (no emailing, messaging, or checking grades unless instructed to do so).
- Teachers have the right to look through your Chrome book.
- If you are using the Chrome book inappropriately, you will be given one warning. If the behavior continues, it will be taken away.
As a member of a 1:1 program, it is your responsibility to bring your device to class each day charged and ready for use. Failure to do so will result in your being sent to the Media Center to receive a violation. If your device is in need of charging it will be kept and charged for the remainder of the class hour or until it reaches 50%. It is your responsibility to pick it up between classes. Loaner devices are available only for devices that are in for repair
Violation #1 - Warning
Violation #2 - Detention
Violation #3 - Detention and loss of privilege to take device home for the period of 20 school days
Be Attentive:
- When the teacher counts down or says begin, you may begin working.
- When the teacher counts down from 5, please freeze, stop, and give your full attention.
Be Considerate:
- Respect the people, equipment, and furnishings in the room.
- Adjust your voice level to suit the activity.
- Follow directions the first time they are given.
- Observe all rules in the student handbook.
If You Choose to not be Considerate
- First time: Non verbal
- Second time: Walk and stand by
- Third time: Coupling Statement (“Right now you’re blurting, a better choice would be to raise your hand.”)
- Fourth time: Refocus Form in the Classroom
- Fifth time: Refocus Form in Room 226/Options Room
- Sixth time: Removal to the office
Tardy to Class:
Students need to be in their assigned seat when the bell rings. If students are tardy, they should enter the classroom quietly and begin working as soon as they are seated. Students that receive 3 unexcused tardies/quarter will be assigned detention. If 3 tardies are accumulated, detention will be assigned and the principal will be notified. Also, as stated in the attendance policy, this will also count as one absence.

Assignments:
Assignments will be posted on front board, as well as the unit and daily goals of the lesson. Students will be expected to write down their goal and assignment in their planner or assignment notebook each day.
Students will also be able to access a calendar in the classroom which posts assignments, as well as the lesson plan calendar attached to my web page.
Turning in Assignments:
For most assignments, students will pass them forward within their tables/desks. We will go over questions and students will be responsible for reviewing their homework before turning it in. As far as absent or late work, students can turn in their assignments to the appropriate period basket located in the classroom. For all assignments, they will be reviewed by both the students and myself and graded according to the homework rubric.
Returning Assignments:
Students will have some assignments returned to them to use as notes. Students will have an opportunity to ask questions, correct part/all of their assignment in class, and receive their work back after teacher has reviewed it.
Grades:
Student grades will be posted using the online Synergy grade book. Students may access their grades at any time. Grades are usually updated each day, with the exception that late/missing assignments may not be recorded until the following school day. Students are encouraged to talk to me immediately if a grade concern arises. I will be happy to meet with them privately after class or to set a time to discuss any concerns. Students are expected to monitor their progress independently.
Grades will be based on tests and quizzes, homework, warm-up’s, projects, participation, and classroom activities.
Late or Missing Work:
Students receive half credit for late work. Students will have two "late work passes" that may be used each quarter to earn full credit on a late assignment. Students should complete all late or missing work prior to the unit test!

Homework Grading
Homework will be graded on a 5 point scale. Showing work and how students arrived at answer is more important that simply having the correct answer. Students should be able to demonstrate how they arrived at their answer by showing their work with each problem.
5-Point Homework Grading Rubric
5-Circled correct and labeled answer that has a neat, complete, and well-organized work, graph/diagram/table, or reasonable explanation of how the answer was found near the circled answer and question
4-Circled correct answer that has reasonable work, graph/diagram/table or reasonable explanation of how the answer was found near the answer and question, but which is not complete, making it hard to follow the thinking behind the answer
3-Correct or partially correct answer, but has a reasonable work or explanation of how the answer was found, but is unorganized, or is difficult to read and follow the thinking behind the answer
2- Incorrect answer, but used a reasonable method, graph/diagram/table, explanation with major mistakes
1-Correct answer but poor explanation or no thinking shown
0-Attempted with poorly chosen method with wrong answer, or blank with no attempt
If a Student is Absent:
Students will have two days for each day that they are absent to make up their work. The student is responsible to check the calendar on my teacher web page or in the classroom to determine what they have missed. If students have questions regarding the missed work, they are expected to see me. If students miss a test or quiz, they are responsible to see me to make arrangements to make it up. If an extension is needed to complete absent work, the student will need to talk to me to make arrangements for an extended due date.
Family/Parent Communication:
I will communicate classroom policies and assignments through my web page. I will also use email to communicate with parents regarding happenings in the classroom. If an individual concern arises, I will contact parents via email or phone call. Keeping communication open between home and school is necessary to a successful school year for the students. Please feel free to contact me at anytime as well!
If Students Finish Classwork Early:
If students finish their work early, they need to be prepared to have something to work on. Students may play games from the book shelf in the classroom , work on the class puzzle, silent read, play an approved game on their chrome book, or work on homework for other classes.
